What we stand for

Four promises. No fine print.

In person, always

Every swap happens face to face. The book is the excuse; the conversation is the point.

Libraries first

You meet at your local branch. Libraries are funded by how much they're used — so every swap helps keep yours open.

Your data stays yours

We will never sell or trade your data. Ever. No ad-tech, no attention farming, no fine print.

Friends over downloads

Success isn't installs. If two people become friends through NextChapter, we'll call it a win.

How a swap works

01

Curate a little library

Add the books you're willing to part with. Others do the same, and you swap anytime.

02

Two-way by design

When someone wants your book, you get to pick something from their shelf in return.

03

Meet local readers

Trade in person at libraries, cafés, and bookstores in your area.

Why this exists

As a software engineer, I've been wrestling with where tech is heading lately — products built to grab attention, big companies that feel hollow, AI used as an excuse to push people out. I wanted to know if you can still build something that brings people together instead of farming their screen time — open, honest, and one day, self-sustainable. If two people become friends through NextChapter, that's the win.

I moved to Colorado a couple of years ago and learned how hard it is to make friends as an adult. NextChapter is my attempt to fix that — for me, and for anyone who'd rather meet a real person over coffee than scroll past another stranger.

Books are the excuse. Swaps happen in person, and they happen at libraries first on purpose: libraries are funded largely by how much they get used — every visit, every walk through the door counts. Trade a book, support your branch.
